Hachette Book to Seal Workman Publishing Acquisition Deal

Workman Publishing has recently agreed to the acquisition by Hachette Book Group. Workman Publishing has published some of the most popular bestselling books and series such as “What to Expect” or “Brain Quest.” In addition, the publishing house has published a wide range of novels for parents as well as educational series for young adults.

Workman Publishing has branched out multiple publishers like the literary imprint Algonquin or the Timber Press, a nature publisher. It has been working independently ever since its establishment in 1968. Hachette displays some top-rated authors such as Donna Tartt, J.K. Rowling with her popular Harry Potter series, and David Sedaris.

It is not a wonder that Hachette has become one of the world’s most massive book publishers.

Commenting on the recent events, Carolan Workman, the president of Workman Publishing, shared his insights on the acquisition. He expressed his enthusiasm over the two companies uniting their efforts. Workman Publishing has long been known for its unique cultural significance, and that wasn’t going to change with the acquisition.

Hachette CEO Michael Pietsch expressed the long due admiration towards Workman. He added that the company had incorporated innovation into their robust brand franchises. Workman also has acquired an impressive relationship with authors, agents, other booksellers, and media.

The announcement made on Monday adds to the publishing consolidation trends that have been going on lately. For instance, Penguin Random House plans on acquiring Simon & Schuster. On the other hand, HarperCollins recently signed an agreement to purchase Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s trade division.
